Summary of the Position

This position manages and facilitates all aspects of coaching the sailing team, including practices, regattas and team travel. This position also reinforces safety, and helps minimize risk and potential injury of any student participants in sailing. Promotes team development.

Essential Functions

Oversees the participation of the Bentley Sailing club at activities and events where they are requested to be present.

Conducts practices off site (at the BU Boathouse) in a professional and organized manner. The head coach is responsible for attending all practices and competitions (regattas) with students including travel to any regattas out of the region.

Communicates directly with the team’s Executive Board for logistical and organizational purposes.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience Requirements)

Bachelor’s Degree. Previous experience in coaching/instructing sailing at a level comparable with a University club sport program.

Minimum of a Level 1 Sailing certificate.

First Aid certification and CPR training is required.

Previous experience working with a higher education undergraduate population or adolescent/young adult individuals, as in a school, camp, or related setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Level 2 Sailing certificate preferred.

Background in competitive fleet or team racing.

Extensive knowledge on the rules of sailing.

Physical Demands

Position requires a high level of physical ability and knowledge of sailing practices while maintaining safe standards for student participants.
